Motor Cycling Club 90th Anniversary Trial

I've always had an interest in car 'trials' since watching the start of the annual Motor Cycling Club's Exeter Trial when I lived in Reading. After joining the club I marshalled at a few events but always considered the events too rough to enter my MGB which was my everyday car.

In 1990 it was the clubs 90th birthday and they organised a 'non damaging' trial visiting various hill climbs ('sections') that had been used over the 90 years of the club so I entered with my trusty work car share partner and friend Geoff.

The event started at Silverstone circuit on a Friday evening where entrants set off at one minute intervals to drive to the Peak District (where the Edinburgh Trial takes place). We arrived at the first hill around midnight and spent a couple of hours completing several 'sections' before setting off for the long overnight drive to Devon for a breakfast stop.

Saturday involved several sections and tests on the way to Lands End and then back to a very welcome night stop at a hotel in south Devon. The next morning check in at control again and drive up to Brooklands where there were more autotests and a climb up the test hill.
